Public invited to attend Inquiry’s ‘scene-setting’ presentation on the epidemiology of COVID-19

The Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry is inviting members of the public to attend its first public event - a ‘scene-setting’ presentation on the epidemiology of COVID-19 by Dr Ashley Croft, Consultant Public Health Physician and Medical Epidemiologist.

Dr Croft will present his report on the accepted scientific and medical understanding of coronavirus and COVID-19 as it existed in late 2019 and developed during the pandemic, up until the end of 2022.

The session – which will be livestreamed on the Inquiry’s YouTube channel – will take place at the University of Dundee’s Fulton Building, Small's Lane, Dundee, on Wednesday 26 July and Thursday 27 July 2023, beginning at 10am each day and concluding at 4pm.

The number of seats at the presentation is limited. Members of the public are invited to request a place by emailing contact@covid19inquiry.scot by 7 July. The Inquiry will advise all those making requests of the outcome of those requests on 11 July.

Dr Ashley Croft is an expert in infectious diseases, epidemiology, healthcare associated infections, travel health, tropical medicine, immunisations and vaccinations. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians of London and has acted as an invited expert adviser in Parliamentary inquiries.

Dr Croft has advised the General Medical Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council, UK Coroners’ Service, Public Health England, and UK regional police forces.

Both the Inquiry’s instruction to Dr Croft and his written report will be published on the Inquiry’s website before his presentation, along with the material he references in his report.

It is intended that a full transcript of the presentation will be published on the Inquiry’s website after the event.
