Inquiry opens requests to attend next tranche of health and social care impact hearings

The Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry is now accepting requests to attend for the first three weeks of the second tranche of its health and social care impact hearings.

During these weeks, the Inquiry will sit on the following dates:

Week oneTuesday 12, Wednesday 13, Thursday 14 and Friday 15 March
Week twoTuesday 19, Wednesday 20, Thursday 21 and Friday 22 March
Week threeTuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 March

More information about the core participants and organisations giving evidence each day will be published shortly.

The Inquiry has contacted all core participants with leave to appear by email in relation to requests to attend.

Space at George House, 126 George Street, Edinburgh, the Inquiry’s venue for health and social care impact hearings, is limited, so there may be times when it will not be possible to accommodate everyone wishing to attend impact hearings at this venue.

On sitting days, the Inquiry is providing dedicated space at Regus George Street, 93 George Street, Edinburgh (please note new venue)  in which a broadcast of the proceedings can be watched on the Inquiry’s YouTube channel.

A viewing room is available for use those who wish to attend but cannot be accommodated in the hearing room. This space is less formal than the hearing room and self-service refreshments will be available all day. Advance reservation is required for spaces in the viewing room, and the process for requesting a space is advised below.

Requests to attend either the hearing room or the viewing room should be submitted by email to hearingsandwitnesses@covid19inquiry.scot by 5pm on 1 March 2024 with the following information:

  • Name, date(s) requested, core participant group (if applicable), role (e.g. group member, legal/lay representative/member of the public), and venue preference (i.e., hearing room or viewing room).

The likelihood of being allocated a space in the viewing room is higher than that of being allocated a space in the hearing room. If you wish to place a request to attend one venue only, please specify this. Otherwise, the request will be considered for both venues.

The Inquiry will respond to requests to attend no later than 5pm on Wednesday 6 March 2024.

Requests for attendance from members of the media should be directed to media@covid19inquiry.scot.

The Inquiry is committed to being trauma-informed and person-centred, and the Hearings and Witnesses Team welcomes feedback in relation to attendance at hearings. Any queries or feedback you may have in relation to this process can be sent to hearingsandwitnesses@covid19inquiry.scot.
